Pūhoro and Ministry for Primary Industries Call for Internship Hosts

Pūhoro
23 August 2022

Are you interested in hosting Pūhoro tauira for a summer internship? Pūhoro and the Ministry for Primary industries are calling for projects to host Pūhoro scholars for 10 weeks between November and February.

CALL FOR PROJECTS

Pūhoro STEMM Academy together with the Ministry for Primary Industries invite you to register your interest to host opportunities for Pūhoro scholars. Pūhoro is a complete STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) continuum for young Māori that supports engagement from secondary school through tertiary education and into employment. Pūhoro seeks to increase and improve Māori STEM engagement that will lead to improved diversity and mātauranga Māori expertise across the STEM landscape.

Programmes like Pūhoro are critically important. We face more complex challenges than ever before, and the solutions are more than likely to require STEM expertise. Almost all future jobs will require some STEM knowledge. Māori are estimated to be 30% of the workforce by 2030, but currently represent less than 2% of the scientific workforce. It is more important than ever to ensure Māori have opportunities to develop STEM skills.

The Ministry for Primary Industries seeks to enhance the capability, diversity and capacity of the advisory system, to ensure landowners have access to the right information and the right people to make better informed decisions about their agribusiness. This partnership is an opportunity to grow the number and diversity of people entering the Primary Industry Advisory Services.

All Pūhoro scholars who are engaged or will be engaged in full time study at any tertiary institution in subjects related to the Primary Industries are eligible for this opportunity.

The Summer Scholarship programme starts on Monday 23rd November 2022 and concludes on Thursday 2nd February 2023.
