Pūhoro has teamed up with HERA (Heavy Engineering Research Association) to provide the Whanake Scholarship. Delivered across four years to a Bachelor of Engineering student, the scholarship includes an anuual$10,000 award and ongoing access to Pūhoro’s and HERA’s support systems.
Established in 1978, HERA was born out of a necessity to help its industry navigate its way through a testing industrial environment in the late 70’s. Today, HERA continues this structure and approach as they come face-to-face with new challenges.
HERA, in collaboration with Pūhoro STEMM Academy, are seeking applications from tauira who are passionate about deepening their identity as Māori, and who are interested in being role-models and mentors for other rangatahi Māori considering a career in engineering. To support this aim, successful applicants will register with Pūhoro STEMM Academy, where they will receive mentoring, support securing summer internships, opportunities to connect with other Māori on STEMM pathways, and the opportunity to contribute to the growing Pūhoro Māori STEMM community.
