Pūhoro Charitable Trust is seeking a dedicated Kaihautū Lead to champion our kaupapa in Te Matau-a-Māui (Hawke’s Bay). This pivotal role will drive regional growth, foster stakeholder relationships, and ensure impactful programme delivery for rangatahi Māori.

About Pūhoro Charitable Trust

Pūhoro Charitable Trust is dedicated to increasing Māori participation and success in STEMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Mātauranga Māori). Operating across 13 regions in Aotearoa, we support over 3,000 rangatahi Māori through innovative programmes, strategic partnerships, and cultural empowerment. Our mission is to drive meaningful change in the STEMM landscape, ensuring rangatahi thrive and lead in the sector.

The Role

As Kaihautū Lead, you will be instrumental in:

  • Regional Growth: Leading the expansion of Pūhoro’s presence in Te Matau-a-Māui by building connections with schools and communities, and ensuring smooth onboarding processes for new schools.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Cultivating strong relationships with key stakeholders, including whānau, schools, iwi, industry partners, and community groups, to support Pūhoro’s kaupapa.
  • Leadership: Providing guidance and mentorship to one Kaihautū, ensuring effective collaboration and support in delivering our programmes.
  • Programme Delivery: Overseeing the implementation of wānanga and other key activities in the region, ensuring alignment with Pūhoro’s strategic goals.
  • Budget Management: Managing regional budgets effectively, ensuring resources are allocated to achieve maximum impact.
  • Reporting: Providing regular progress updates to senior leadership, highlighting achievements, challenges, and opportunities.

About You

You are a skilled leader and communicator with a passion for empowering rangatahi Māori. Your experience in stakeholder engagement and programme delivery equips you to manage diverse relationships and ensure positive outcomes. You are organised, adaptable, and committed to advancing Māori success in STEMM.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Experience working with rangatahi Māori and a deep understanding of their unique needs, ideally within education, community, or kaupapa Māori contexts.
  • Strong understanding of Mātauranga Māori and a commitment to te reo Māori me ōna tikanga.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and collaborate with stakeholders, including iwi, schools, and industry partners.
  • Experience in managing budgets and reporting on project outcomes.
  • Knowledge in STEM that will enable you to support our rangatahi at an NCEA level.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • A full driver’s licence and the ability to travel across Te Matau-a-Māui as required.

Position Details

Location: Pūhoro Office – Hastings
Reporting to: Pou Akonga – Te Tonga
Contract Type: Full-time
Salary Band: Step 5 ($72,500 – $101,000 per year)
