At the heart of Pūhoro is a deep belief in the strength of mātauranga Māori and the limitless potential of our rangatahi to shape the future through science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and mātauranga (STEMM).
We’re proud to have been featured on The Hui, who helped shine a light on the important mahi underway to increase Māori participation in STEMM. Like Luke (Ngāti Hauiti, Te Āti Haunui-a-Pāpārangi, Muaūpoko) and Alice (Ngāti Porou, Ngāti Kahungunu), our kaupapa is powered by thousands of passionate rangatahi Māori working not only for their own aspirations — but to uplift generations to come.
“Just because our science wasn’t written down, doesn’t mean it wasn’t science.”
Our tīpuna were scientists in every sense — applying complex systems of knowledge through celestial navigation, rongoā, environmental stewardship, engineering, and the design of pā and marae. Mātauranga Māori is a rigorous and refined body of knowledge that continues to guide innovation today.
It's inspiring to see Pūhoro rangatahi stepping into these spaces with confidence — honouring the knowledge of their ancestors while forging new pathways for Māori in STEMM.
